The TULIPS are coming!! No time to panic like the present!

The TULIPS are coming!! No time to panic like the present!

It's that time of year. The tulips are popping up. And this is when you will find us flower farmers pulling out the frost clothe to protect field grown tulips. Every day. Watching the weather for sleet and cold winds that can damage the blooms. This is Michigan. So, this like every single day!

We tried a new tactic this year. Partly due to ordering circumstances. Partly due to the thought of will this work?

What was the idea, you might ask?

Well. We planted chilled tulips later in the year around January February.

Tulip bulbs require a certain amount of cold time and rooting times. You can order them prechilled right from the wholesalers.

This is very beneficial and necessary if you live in a warm environment and can't chill them yourself.

I don't know about you, but my family has drawn the line at seeds and tubs of gardening beneficial insects in our fridges. No more! They've seen drink and beer fridges turned into bouquet chillers and flower bucket holders!

So here we are. Our field grown tulips of years past have buds popping up. But our crate grown, later started bulbs hva greenery popping up. But no buds that can be hit by ice, freezing wind and snow.

Crossing our fingers that this works well, and we might actually hit our targets of Mother's day. ❤️❤️

Eeither way, we love tulips! They teach us something new every year. I took tons of photos. And I'm pretty sure I deleted most. So, here's one picture and some of the guys playing lacrosse!

Happy gardening!
